INDIA IS THE POVERTY CAPITAL

Even after more than 63 years of Independence India still has the world’s largest number of  poor people in a country where politicians are taking royalty of Mahatama gandhi.

Poverty level is not uniform across India. The poverty level is below 10% in states like
Delhi, Goa, and Punjab etc whereas it is below 50% in Bihar (43) and Orissa (47). It is
between 30-40% in Northeastern states of Assam, Tripura, and Mehgalaya and in Southern states of TamilNadu and Uttar Pradesh.

Multi-dimensional poverty is highest (81.4% poor) among Scheduled Tribes within India’s Hindu population, followed by Scheduled Castes (65.8%), Other Backward Class (58.3%) and finally the general population (33.3%). With India’s food-subsidy bill poised to double to Rs 1,00,000 crore per year if every family below the poverty line gets 35 kg of wheat or rice, up from the current 25 kg, Satna shows how it could be wasted if the corrupt bureaucracy isn’t reformed.

Government NAREGA scheme of  Rs-41,000 crore , but poor people not getting advantage. This scheme is only for selected persons for 100 days in a year job , and pay is Rs- 100 per pay day only. NAC recommended food Security for poor people but government is in no mood to give to the poor. FCI godowns have lots of food but Government have decided to rot food but will not give to poor. PDS(public distribution system) where BpL(below poverty line) family supposed to get food but not poor & needy peoples are getting this benefit. Politicians are using fraud name & rations card , they are selling food to black market.  Even a poor has to bribe for a ration card. How could a poor pay bribe for a ration card?

At 60 per cent, the state has India’s highest proportion of malnourished children (India has the highest number of malnourished children in the world.India’s abysmal track record at ensuring basic levels of nutrition is the greatest contributor to its poverty as measured by the new international Multi-dimensional Poverty Index (MPI). About 645 million people or 55% of India’s population is poor as measured by this composite indicator made up of ten markers of education, health and standard of living achievement levels.

Developed by the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI) for the United Nations Development Programmes (UNDP) forthcoming 2010 Human Development Report, the MPI attempts to capture more than just income poverty at the household level. It is composed of  ten indicators: years of schooling and child enrollment (education); child mortality and  nutrition (health); and electricity, flooring, drinking water, sanitation, cooking fuel and  assets (standard of living). Each education and health indicator has a 1/6 weight, each standard of living indicator a 1/18 weight.

created in India is 10 million per year.700 million people in India below the age of 35.
85 percent employees have no provident fund, mediclaim,insurance &  gratuity.
The World Bank’s definition of the poverty line, for under developed countries, like India,
is US$ 1/day/person or US $365 per year. As per this definition, more than 75% of all
Indians are, probably, below the poverty line.As per the Government of India, poverty line for the urban areas is Rs. 296 per month and for rural areas Rs. 276 per month, i.e. people in India who earn less than Rs. 10 per day.

On 30th June,2010 illegal ration card were captured. On the other hand those who are really below poverty line are not getting ration cards because they have no money to pay bribe.

Corrupt practices are robing the developing nations as much as USD 40 billion annually, even a fraction of which can fund treatment of over 6 lakh AIDS people, according to the World Bank.When reports first emerged of children eating mud here local officials delivered more food and warned the villagers not to speak to outsiders.
